Our Story

Looi Leather began its journey in 2017 when Helena Troskie crafted her first colourful genuine leather handbag in George, Western Cape. The brand started trading at the Outeniqua Farmers Market in George. In 2020, Miets van der Merwe joined Helena, and together they expanded their journey to the Hermanus Country Market and also to Gauteng. We simply adore our craft, our designs, and take immense pride in bringing them to you with loving care. 

What Does “Looi” Mean?

“Looi” is an Afrikaans word describing the process of tanning leather – transforming animal hide into the useful product we know as leather. This name reflects our commitment to genuine leather and the artistry involved in creating each piece.  

Our Craftsmanship

Every Looi Leather product is designed with love and care. Our items are precisely cut by laser and then meticulously hand-stitched to perfection. Each piece is lovingly finished off and engraved with our unique Looi Leather Logo.

We use only 100% genuine leather, guaranteed to be of the best quality. Leather is a natural product, and any small imperfections it may have only add to its individual character. Over time, your Looi Leather product will mature, developing a beautiful weathered look and feel.
